About Therapy: What Is The Difference Between Psychotherapy and Psychology?

I seem to always run into someone that doesn’t know or understand the difference between psychotherapy and psychology. It's not their fault; the two are similar and the same in some ways. 

By the end of this blog, you should be able to understand the following:

The Difference Between Psychology And Psychotherapy 

A psychologist uses scientific methods to examine how people think, feel, and behave. In contrast, a psychotherapist focuses more on the emotions and thoughts behind those actions.

Both psychologists and psychotherapists do practice psychotherapy and work with clients to help them improve their lives. However, Psychologists typically have a higher cost of service, and, Registered Psychotherapists help clients just as effectively. Lastly, Registered Psychotherapists cannot diagnose, but they can work with diagnoses. 

Treatment Options 

If you feel depressed or anxious, for example, there are several treatment options available. You might consider talking with a Psychotherapist/Psychologist about the different types of therapy and how each differs.

In addition, you can talk with friends and family members about how to cope with stress and anxiety; sometimes that’s all someone needs. If you would rather have unbiased help, or simply don’t want to share with friends and family, a therapist is the way to go.
